Today Fibrant was featured on the WTiN Innovate Podcast following our win at the WTiN Textile Innovation Awards 2024. In this special episode, Giovanni Henssen, our Business Development Manager Sustainability, shared the story behind EcoLactam®, the innovation that earned us the Product Innovation Award.
EcoLactam®: The Sustainable Nylon Solution
EcoLactam® is the most sustainable nylon feedstock on the market, designed to address the textile industry’s largest challenge: reducing scope 3 emissions. These emissions, often the biggest share of a brand’s carbon footprint, are significantly lowered with EcoLactam®, which offers virgin-quality nylon with a much smaller carbon footprint, enabled by Fibrant’s advanced production technology.
Collaboration for Impact
Fibrant’s role as a tier-four upstream producer often places us outside the direct view of brand owners. Yet, as Giovanni explained, meaningful sustainability in nylon-based textiles requires upstream collaboration. Partnering with Fibrant, Didriksons developed a garment using low-carbon EcoLactam®, a bio-based waterproof coating, and a trim-free design for easy recycling, showcasing the power of cross-value-chain collaboration.
Scaling Sustainability
EcoLactam® distinguishes itself by combining high quality with immediate scalability. As Giovanni noted in the podcast, “This project demonstrates how upstream innovation can drive real sustainability progress. We hope it inspires others to take bold steps toward reducing emissions.”
